Sentimental Value.
Upon departure, it's fairly common to give the one left behind a thing of sentimental value. Something the lonesome one can hold onto with hope that their beloved will return to claim the item.
So lets work on this 'sentimental value' phrase. It's usually something that has been in one's possession for a fair amount of time. Something that... Well hang on a second, let me tell you what it isn't. Or even better!! Let me show you!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, I have the pleasure, nay -the honour, of introducing...
Jack.

Yes, folks. Upon his departure (whilst we were roaming around Parkway looking for baby toys for my neice/second cousin -wotever you wish to call it), my Beloved presented me with this!
Not very conventional, not very sentimental (it was bought whilst we were shopping that day) and not very pretty.
HOWEVER
It was something he said he'd come back for (wait... isn't he supposed to come back for me?!?!) and yes, he did piece it together over coffee.
So... Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you...
Jack.
(*schoolgirl giggle* Yes, he is named after Captain Jack Sparrow. Who else would I name him after? After all, Captain Jack IS so very yummy. Naming him after my Beloved would just be cheesy. I miss him, but not that much!)

Such a swash-buckler. Sighhhh...
